and pollution control projects that lead to the creation of independently verified greenhouse gas emissions "offsets". Each offset represents the equivalent of one metric ton of direct reductions in carbon dioxide emissions. When you purchase offsets as a gift or award for others on e-BlueHorizons, we register and "retire" those offsets in the name of the person or organization you designate. Retiring offsets means taking them permanently out of circulation along with any associated future "right to pollute".

Your action will benefit the environment in two important ways. In addition to retiring carbon offsets in the name of the person(s) or organization you identify, e-BlueHorizons will donate fifty percent of your purchase to The Conservation Fund's Go Zero program in support of its work across the U.S. to restore wildlife habitat and fight climate change by planting trees. To date, the Fund has planted over five million trees, which are expected to capture and sequester approximately 10 million tons of carbon dioxide (the major cause of global warming) over the next 70 years.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that a two–person household generates carbon dioxide-equivalent emissions of approximately 30 tons per year.
